Need to Talk About Suicide
Young people need to talk about suicide but feel that due to the fear of adults that they are often left out of being included in what could be a lifesaving conversation. As young people we understand that this can be a very frightening topic to talk about, so we felt that it was important to help support more young people begin to have this conversation with the safe adults in their lives by providing some resources. As a group of young people, we all undertook Connections Link Life Suicide Prevention Programme in preparation for creating these resources. It was important that we weren’t rushed. Discussing this topic should never be about ‘ticking lists’ nor should it be squeezed into a short time. It’s also important to talk about this in small groups. The more we talk about it, the more awareness we will have to prevent suicide for ourselves and others and this is important as we all want to save more lives.
